One of Benilde’s core values is social responsibility.
Being socially responsible doesn’t just translate with attending 8 NSTP Saturdays (or 16 excursion hours) to a Shelter and teach those young kids with Basic Education. Or something as bringing a plastic of: rice, sardines and noodles during Typhoons that devastate our country. I am not saying that is a bad idea, but i am pointing out that you can get a 4 in NSTP2 or a plus point for bringing relief goods, yet fail to have compassion for others or fully understand what it really means to help. After graduating NSTP, after carrying those goods, what does it really mean to be socially responsible?
Social Action Office (SAO) plays an important role to make sure that our core values, Social Responsibility, does not just exist on our handbooks. They have their office located at the 3rd floor Mutien hall near their colorful Bulletin board of Activities.
Seminars, Forums, trainings, bazaars and concerts are just some of the activities related to social and political issues that they are holding. And that of course is through tie-ups or collaboration with other offices, NGOs and even student Organizations here in Benilde.
I would love to volunteer my self but my commitment and schedule assistant just keep on saying “NOT NOW”. So if you know for a fact that joining them would not kill you, please do so. Join and be a volunteer of Social Action Office (SAO). Hold events, meet new friends, get incentives, inspire people, attend team-buildings, know what it really means to help others and be Socially Responsible. It would not be easy but it would be rewarding.
I am out of focus! this blog was suppose to be about the Presidential forum not for SAO it self. Anyway, i think pointing out Social responsibility would be essential.
And to my friend, SAO volunteer, Mon Parica. Congratulations! It has been a while since we last met and that was during Benilde’s Relief Operation from Typhoon Ondoy and you are about to get your diploma. All of you did inspire me. You are not those who are often seen on stage but those who get tired and travel several miles for an Operation. I’ll do my best to be “Fellow” volunteer at SAO
. To all of you out there! Thank You and Well done
